Ralph W. Steck, 67, of Guys Mills, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 26, 1946 in Oil City, a son of Ralph E. and Beatrice (Curly) Nuhfer Steck. He married Diane Beiter July 24, 1965 and she survives.
Ralph was a 1964 graduate of Meadville High School. He was a member of Ironworkers Union Local 3, Pittsburgh and Labor Union Local 964, New Castle. He worked at Sunbeam Corporation, Joy Manufacturing, Franklin, did iron work on Three Rivers Stadium, Pittsburgh and the Meadville Mall as well as worked on the building projects at Maplewood High School and Woodcock Dam. Ralph was also owner and operator of Steck’s Garage in Guys Mills.
He was a member of St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, Frenchtown. Ralph enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drag racing but most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Diane of 48 years, include a son, Samuel Steck and his wife Janice of Guys Mills; a daughter, Tammy Bakus and her husband Jason of Guys Mills; ten grandchildren, Zack Steck and his wife Leighann, Samantha Steck, Megan Steck, Sylvie Koseff, Nathan Koseff, Emmalee Koseff, Alex Bakus, Tanner Bakus, Abigail Bakus, and Sophia Bakus; a great-granddaughter, Hallie Steck; four sisters, Barb Smith and her husband David of Kalispell, MT, Sue Hogue and her husband Wayne of Seneca, Margaret Sharrar and her husband Clint of Seneca, and Beverly Marvin and her husband Dan of Reno; a step-brother, Joe Meehan and his wife Pam of Oil City; two step-sisters, Marie Barber and her husband Sam and Brenda Perry and her husband Doug, all of Oil City; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Voss and his wife Eva of Las Animas, CO and Wray Beiter and his wife Maria of Saegertown; a sister-in-law, Carol Kennedy and her husband Paul of Guys Mills; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Steck and a sister, Theresa Steck.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 7:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hippolyte Church, 25997 State Hwy 27, Guys Mills with Fr. Daniel Prez as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
