Ralph William Peters

October 25, 1925 — January 22, 2007

Ralph William “Bill” Peters, 81, of 689 North Street, Meadville, died Monday, January 22, 2007 at the Meadville Medical Center.

He was born October 25, 1925 in Meadville a son of Ralph C. and Margaret J. Smith Peters.  He married Phyllis Brumbaugh February 1951 and she survives.

He attended Meadville High School.  In his younger years, he worked on the Erie Railroad.  He subsequently worked for American Viscose and its successor Avtex in the spinning department for 38 years.  Later he worked as a driver and in the woodshop at UCIP and then as a driver at Community Chevrolet.

He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army serving in the Phillipines.  He enjoyed sports, specifically Cleveland sports teams and NASCAR.  He enjoyed old cars and dearly loved his family.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Phyllis of 55 years, include: two sons, William Peters and his wife Marjorie of Meadville and James Peters and his wife Claudia of Frankfort, Germany; a daughter, Sharyn Beckman of Meadville; a sister, Margaret Riggs of Phoenix, AZ; four grandchildren, Laura Peters, Emily Peters, Misti Peters and Tonya Peters and cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Peters.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Conley, Pastor of Meadville Alliance Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
