Randall S. Shumaker

Randell S. Shumaker, 99, of Meadville, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at Rolling Fields.

He was born in Armstrong County December 20, 1910, a son of Pritner and Martha "Matti" Mohney Shumaker.  He married Rhoda Hayes March 24, 1937 and she preceded him in death February 17, 1998.

Randell worked in the development laboratory at the American Viscose for over 30 years, retiring in 1973.  He also farmed and worked in a brickyard and clay mine.  He was a former member of Masonic Lodge 408, Meadville, was an accomplished woodworker making many clocks including numerous grandfather clocks, various furniture pieces, and he designed and built 3 houses.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole Vukmer of Port Clinton, OH and Lynne Lindsey of Bonita Springs, FL; a son, Gary Shumaker and his wife Josie of Commerce Township, MI; 9 grandchildren, Debbie Bode, Kevin Shumaker, Susie Grigg, Tammy Shumaker, Eryn Peters, Stephen Vukmer, Jr., Gwyn Vukmer, Scott Kaste, and Lisa Rhoades; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Twila Smith, Virginia Reddinger and Elsie Harmon and 2 brothers, Frank Shumaker and his twin Wendell D. Shumaker.

Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
