Ray L. Beuchat

September 8, 1918 — April 1, 2014

Ray L. Beuchat, 95, a life-long resident of Guys Mills, died at home surrounded by his family and friends, Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

He was born in Randolph Twp., September 8, 1918, a son of Leon E. and Dora V. Schenberg Beuchat.  He married Ella Jayne Fitzgerald November 29, 1941 and she survives.

He was a 1936 graduate of Randolph High School, worked for the former American Viscose and Westinghouse in the 1940’s, worked as a dairy farmer in Randolph Twp., drove a school bus for the Randolph-East Mead Schools for 17 years and worked in the maintenance department at Allegheny College for 18 years and retired as the head groundskeeper of the Robertson Athletic Field.

Ray served on the Randolph Twp. Board of Elections in his early years.  He received a citation as a 50 year consecutive voter by the PA House of Representative in 1994 and continued to vote regularly thereafter.  He served two terms as Randolph Twp. Supervisor in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  He continued his community involvement by being a State Fire Warden for 69 years.

He was a member of St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church and he also attended First Christian Church.  He enjoyed trapping, hunting, gardening and especially spending time with his family and neighbors.  His favorite sports were baseball and football, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Jayne of 72 years, include: a daughter, Judy L. Beuchat of Greenville; a son, Dr. Larry R. Beuchat of Griffin, GA and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William J. Beuchat and three sisters, Audrey Klins, Joanne Dellamedaglia and Mary Jacobs.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Marshall Lillie, Chaplain of Hospice of Crawford County and Fr. Daniel Prez, Pastor, of St. Hippolyte Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 25, Guys Mills, PA 16327 or Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
