Raymond A. Stewart

January 22, 1929 — March 1, 2019

Raymond A. Stewart, 90, formerly of Cochranton and a resident of Rolling Fields, passed away there Friday, March 1, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

A coal miner’s son, he was born January 22, 1929 in Kissinger Mills, PA to the late Carlton C. and Dorothy A. Wathen Stewart.  He met the love of his life, Margaret Hilton, while stationed outside of Manchester, England and they were married April 19, 1952.  She preceded him in death June 6, 2013.

Ray was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 to 1951.  He worked at General Electric and subsequently at National Cash Register Corporation.

Ray was a member of and loved his involvement with the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology from which he was the recipient of the distinguished Archey Award in 2014 presented by Carl Burkett, Jr.

Survivors include four children, Gary Stewart (Lauren) of Madison, OH, Laurie Mai (Martin) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Tim Stewart (Mary) of Cochranton, and Ann King (Michael) of Rochester, NY; ten grandchildren, Michael Stewart (Sonya), Gregory Stewart (Katie), Matthew Stewart, Gabrielle Mai, Will Mai, Maura Stewart, Katie Stewart Hanlon (Cory), Daniel Stewart, Bryan King, and Laurie King; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Carlton (Red), Jim, Leroy, and Larry Stewart and a sister, Marilyn Argabrite.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
