Raymond E. Bacher, 83, of 246 Meadow St., Meadville died at home unexpectedly on Thursday Nov. 20, 2003.
He was born in Greenville, Feb. 12, 1920, a son of the late Lawrence & Ella Billig Bacher. He married Ethel Barlett Sept. 20, 1945, and she survives.
He was a 1938 graduate of Greenville High School, and a 1942 graduate of Grove City College. He was a veteran of World War II with the U. S. Army Air Corps serving in the China, India, Burma Theatre of operations.
He was first employed in Meadville at Westinghouse, then with Meadville Redevelopment Corp., and then became the first executive director of Vallonia Industries, a vocational rehabilitation facility for the disabled, retiring in 1977.
He was a 50-year member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of Elks Lodge #219, a member of Crawford Masonic Lodge #234, a member of New Castle Consistory, a member of Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie, a member of Crawford County Shrine Club, and a member of the Meadville Country Club.
He especially enjoyed golfing, traveling, and being with his family.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 58 years, include 2 daughters, Joyce Rozell and her husband Robert, of Meadville, and Susan Davis and her husband Michael of Palm Springs, FL a grandson, Christopher Rozell and his wife Erin of Enola, PA, and a great grandson, Braden Rozell of Enola, a brother, Ronald Bacher and his wife Annalise of Bristol, RI, a brother-in law, Clifford Grine, of Hermitage and also nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Bacher, and a grandson Dr. Jeffery S. Rozell.
Calling hours will be today (Sat.) from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St Meadville.
The funeral service will be held Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Brian Jensen, pastor, officiating.
Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
