The Rev. Dr. Albert Marriott, 79, of Meadville, retired pastor of Stone United Methodist Church and of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, died Thursday, October 29, 1970, at City Hospital after an illness of one month.
The long-time minister and community leader had been in nearly complete retirement for the past year, having served the Meadville area in many capacities for 33 years.
Dr. Marriott's association with the Eire Methodist Conference and later Western PA Conference spanned a period of 30 years. He and his family came to Meadville in September 1936 from Simpson Methodist Church in Erie. He pastored the city's largest Protestant church until retiring in 1952 after 16 years. He then became superintendent of the Erie Conference's Meadville District, a position he filled for six years until retiring in 1958. He later served for a number of years as the conference's director of stewardship and its successor, secretary of stewardship for the Western Pennsylvania Conference.
Dr. Marriott was born in Ashover, North Chesterfield, England, November 15, 1890, a son of Samuel H. and Mary Jennison Marriott. He married Florence E. Hiorns August 13, 1913.
Surviving are his widow; two daugters, Mrs. Florence McColgin of New Castle and Mrs. Charles (Alberta) Geisler, Jr. of Ballston Spa, NY; two sisters, Mrs. W. M. Todd of Kelowna, British Columbia and Mrs. Mary Hill in England; a brother, Richard J. in England.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Entombment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
