Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Cousins

May 6, 1884 — August 11, 1970

The Rev. Dr. Joseph A. Cousins, 86, of Guys Mills, a Methodist minister for 58 years who had at one time served Grace United Methodist and State Road Hill United Methodist churches in Meadville, died at Spencer Hospital, August 11, 1970, after a short illness.

He was a graduate of Drew Theological Seminary at Madison, NJ, Dr. Cousins had served at Erie Cascade Methodist Church, First Methodist Church in Punxsutawney, Grace United Methodist, Croton Avenue Methodist Church in New Castle, Oakland Avenue Methodist Church at Sharon, Reynoldsville Methodist Church and Sharpsville Methodist Church.

In retirement, he had served Branchton Methodist Church near Slippery Rock and State Road Hill United Methodist Church.

Dr. Cousins was born in Kittanning May 6, 1884, a son of Joseph and Lydia Eisenhuth Cousins.  He married the former Jessie Beck January 4, 1905.

Surviving, in addition to his widow, are three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Jessie) Newberry of Lake City, Mrs. Oscar (Helen) Bishop of Sharon and Mrs. Frank (Neva) Chismar of Guys Mills; four sons, Rev. James Cousins of Erie, Rev. Williams Cousins of Union City, MI, Richard Cousins of Dubois and Joseph Cousins of Saegertown; twenty grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
