The Rev. Dr. Louis W. Sherwin, 78, of Nappanee, IN, a graduate of Allegheny College in 1908, died Tuesday, January 9, 1962, a Elkhart, IN, General Hospital after an illness of about a month.
While at Allegheny, Dr. Sherwin was a member of Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa honorary scholastic fraternity. In October 1912, he married Lorena Palm of Meadville, whose father, Andrew Palm, was a former city postmaster. She died in 1953. He was born at Braddock, September 7, 1883, a son of George and Anna Bryan Sherwin.
A Presbyterian minister, the Rev. Dr. Sherwin was graduated in 1912 from Auburn Theological Seminary in New York City. Later he did graduate work at Mansfield College, Oxford, England and at Yale Divinity School.
He was pastor at Highland Park, IL, for 17 years, at Second Presbyterian Church, Oil City for thirteen and a half years and in Indianpolis, IN for three years. Upon retiring from active ministry in 1948, Dr. Sherwin was chaplain of Presbyterian Hospital at Chicago for 10 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ada Black of Buffalo and Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Nichols of Nappanee; a brother, John Paul Sherwin of Munhall and three grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
