Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Barlett

The Rev. Dr. Samuel H. Barlett, 89, a resident at he Meadville Methodist Home for the Aged for the past 10 years, died at the home Thursday morning, May 7, 1959, after a long illness.

Dr. Barlett was born in Scotch Hill, Clarion County, June 27, 1869.  He married the former Ida M. Slagle September 9, 1897.  She survives and also lives at the home.

He was educated in Clarion County schools and spent some time as a lumberman.  As a young man he helped build river boats which were floated down the Clarion River and on to Pittsburgh.  He attended Ohio Wesleyan College and received a doctor of philosophy degree from Grove City College in 1909.

Dr. Barlett first served churches in Oil City and Braddock of the United Evangelical Church.  He later joined the Erie Conference of the Methodist Church and served for more than 30 years.  Among his pastorates were churches at Edinboro, New Wilmington, Rimersburg, Wattsburg and Parker.  He retired in 1941 but continued to serve as pastor of Robinson Chapel, near Parker, for several years.

Surviving, besides his widow, are a son, Arthur W. of Erie and a sister, Mrs. A.B. Smith of Brookville.

Services were held at the Chapel of the Methodist Home and interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
