Rev. Herbert A. Ziegler

Rev. Herbert A. Ziegler, 72, of 163 Doughty Rd., Meadville, died Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

He was born June 21, 1929 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Ralph C. and Maude Allison Ziegler, Sr.  He married Kay Hathaway June 2, 1951.

He was a 1951 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster and a 1954 graduate of Lancaster Theological Seminary.  He was Pastor of Grace Reformed Church, Mt. Carmel from 1954 to 1960.  From 1960 until his retirement in 1994 he was Pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Meadville and was subsequently honored as Pastor Emeritus.  He led the move from the church’s original site on South Main Street to its new and current location on upper Park Avenue.  He was an active member of the Lake Erie United Church of Christ Conference and former board member of the Center for Family Services for 34 years where he was recently honored as board member emeritus.  He hosted two different religious television programs in Meadville.  He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather.  He enjoyed reading, working outdoors, and the Sea.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 50 years, include 4 daughters, Kathleen Deets and her husband William of Meadville; Marjorie Nicolaisen and her husband Royce of Orinda, CA; Victoria Ziegler of Meadville; and Jennifer Ziegler of Alexandria, VA; 7 grandchildren, Julia and David Deets, Courtney, Chloe, and Madeleine Nicolaisen, and Emily and Alexander Dewey; and 1 brother, Ralph C. Ziegler, Jr. and his wife Ellie of Lewes, Del.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 30 N. Park Ave., Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Timothy Solomon officiating.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
