Rev. Jack E. Spencer

Rev. Jack E. Spencer, 87, of Meadville, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

He was born January 29, 1927 in DuBois, PA a son of Furman Burdell and Izetta Anderson Spencer.  He married Mildred “Millie” Littell March 21, 1953 and she survives.

Jack was a 1954 graduate of DuBois High School, then was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy in the South Pacific on the USS Currituck (a seaplane tender).  He graduated from Mount Union College and Drew University School of Theology.  He was ordained into the United Methodist Church, serving as an associate pastor at Stone United Methodist here in Meadville, then at Christ United Methodist in Erie, Titusville First United Methodist, Warren (PA) First United Methodist, as District Superintendent of the Franklin District and finally at Lakewood United Methodist in Erie.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Millie of 61 years, include: a son, Rev. Greg Spencer and his wife Christine of Cochranton; a daughter, Kimberly Lenahan of Rocky River, OH; five grandchildren, Benjamin Spencer, Jackson Spencer, Russell Lenahan, Paul Lenahan and David Lenahan; a sister, DeAnn Henley and her husband Mearl of Greenville and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Russell Lenahan.

The memorial service will be Saturday, November 1st at 12:30 p.m. at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville.  A light lunch reception will follow in the Community Room of Cribbs Home, Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville.

Interment of his cremated remains will be in the cremation garden of First United Methodist Church, Warren, PA.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
