The Rev. Walter T. Riemann, 76, of Aldan Clifton Heights, Philadelphia, a former Meadville resident and former minister at Harmonsburg, died Thursday, March 21, 1968, after a long illness.
The Rev. Mr. Riemann served as pastor of Harmonsburg Presbyterian Church a number of years ago prior to becoming pastor of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church at Erie.
At one time he was a candidate for mayor of Meadville but was defeated by the late John R. Reynolds.
The Rev. Mr. Riemann was born in Germany November 6, 1891, a son of Franz and Elizabeth Schultz Riemann. He came to Meadville with his parents in 1892 and for a number of years was a pattern maker for the Erie Railroad Co. He attended Meadville schools and studied for the ministry at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. There he met Margaret Slayton of Conneuatville who became he wife.
He was a cofounder and a past president of the Lake Erie Bible Conference. He moved to Philadelphia about 25 years ago where he was associate pastor of the Tenth Presbyterian Church at Philadelphia. He continued his affiliation with the Lake Erie Bible Conference, serving as its president in the early 1950s. He retired from the ministry in 1958.
He is survive by his widow; two children, Mrs. William (Ruth) Taylor of Kennett Square and Howard Riemann of Aurora, IL; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Appenrodt of Meadville and Mrs. Theodore (Frieda) Fox of Meadville; three brothers, A. O. and Frank of Meadville and Harold of North Bennington, VT; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Conneautville Cemetery.
