Rhea Virgilia (Smith) Unger

Rhea Virgilia Smith Unger, 103, formerly of Meadville and a resident of St. John’s Home, Rochester, NY, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012.

She was born in Summit Twp., Crawford Co., August 4, 1908 a daughter of Fred Brown and Sarah Arminta Harper Smith.  She married Robert H. Unger February 14, 1934 and he preceded her in death September 22, 2011.

She owned and operated with her husband Unger’s Antique Shop in Kerrtown for 42 years.  She also worked as a hairdresser and after graduating from the Meadville Commercial College worked as an accounts payable clerk.  She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Crawford County Antique Dealer’s Assoc.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Gayle) Kelley of Churchville, NY; 2 grandchildren, Melissa (Kent Knox) Kelley and Diane (Dennis) Mead; 3 great grandchildren, Elaine Elizabeth Mead, Teagan Kelley Mead and McKenna Rhea Kelley-Knox, close friend Jennifer (Richard) Anlauf and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Myrna Smith, Genevieve Kramer, Lenore Postance, Margaret Mullen and Florence Linendoll and three brothers, Raymond, Seward and Lyle Smith.

A service of Memory will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with Attorney William B. Moore, officiating.

Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
