Richard A. Frontz, Sr.

June 10, 1928 — January 11, 2013

Richard A. (Dick) Frontz, Sr., 84, of Meadville, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Marquette Hospice House, Meadville surrounded by his loving family following a cancer illness.

He was born June 10, 1928 in Meadville, a son of John D. and Rose V. Lenhart Frontz.  He married Marilyn Small June 28, 1952 and she survives.

Dick was a 1946 graduate of Meadville High School, served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1949, and was a 1952 graduate of the former Erie Commercial College with a degree in accounting.  He was employed at Westinghouse, Meadville from 1952 to 1958 in the finance department and then at Talon, Inc., Meadville for 25 years from 1958 to 1983 as a supervisor and manager in the finance department.  He worked as the Crawford County chief assessor from 1983 to 1989 and served on the PA Tax Equalization Board from 1989 to 2002 as a certified PA evaluator.

Dick was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, its choir for over 60 years, and served on various committees throughout the years.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge 408 for over 60 years and past master in 1980, New Castle and Erie Consistory, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie, and the Crawford County Shrine Club.  He was a member, past president for 3 years and past director for 2 years of the Presque Isle Corvette Club, Erie.  Dick was a member of the Greendale Cemetery Assn. Board of Directors, was a former director and treasurer of the Meadville Community Hotel which later became the David Mead Inn, was a former assistant Boy Scout Master of Troop 227, former 4-H leader for 9 years of the Cochranton Blue Ribbon Club and was the recipient of the outstanding 4-H leader award in 1970.

Dick enjoyed golfing and bowling in various leagues throughout the years and was a former PA senior doubles bowling champion.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Marilyn of 60 years, include two daughters, Constance J. Clingerman and her husband Thomas of Greensburg and Kathleen G. Frontz of Meadville; a son, Richard A. Frontz, Jr. and his wife Catherine of Cranberry Township; four grandchildren, Christopher and Caitlin Clingerman and Kristy and Chad Frontz; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John D. Frontz.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church and the Rev. Gerald Murphy, retired United Methodist clergyman, officiating.

Entombment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
