Richard A. Hart, 83, of Meadville passed away Christmas Day at home. Dick was born in Meadville, on October 10, 1935, a son of the late Harold T. and Lucy (Briggs) Hart. On March 31, 1962, Dick married Shirley McKinney: she survives. Dick was a 1953 graduate of Meadville High School and served in the US Army from 1957-1959. He retired from Conrail after 40 years of employment where he worked as a Conductor. Dick was a member of Elks BPO #219, Meadville Eagles, the Meadville Club, West Mead #2 Fire Hall, Vernon Central Fire Hall and VFW Post #2006. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #234, Zem Zem Shrine and the Valley of Erie Consistory-Scottish Rite. His hobbies included bowling and golf and he was a diehard Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and fast pitch softball, where many knew him as "Chico". In addition to his wife, Shirley of 56 years, Dick is survived by two children, Jim (Lynn) Hart of Monroeville, PA and Karen (Don) Andrews of Meadville, PA, four grandchildren, Ross Hart, J.D. Andrews, Erin Hart and Ryan Hart, a sister, Clara Louise Prenatt, sisters-in-law, Donna Hart, Joyce (Jim) Pittard, Cathy McKinney (John Brugzis) brothers-in-law, Joseph Dillinger, Albert (Janet) McKinney, Ralph McKinney (Rod Henry), several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh (Pete) Hart and Harold E. (Ed) Hart, two sisters, Audrey Dillinger and Mary Coleman, and brother-in-law, Ron Coleman. Calling hours will be Friday, December 28th from 3-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 29th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of United Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer, officiating. Interment with military honors provided by Cochranton American Legion Post #836 will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorials be made to Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer, 16864, Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
