Richard A. Miller

Richard A. Miller, 94, formerly of Meadville and a resident of Sebring, FL passed away Monday, September 26, 2011 two days after his 94th birthday, from complications of a stroke.

He was born in Meadville, September 24, 1917 a son of Wallace and Hazel Miller.  He married Ruth Mason in 1946 and she preceded him in death January 28, 2001.  He subsequently married Sandra Eppehimer Walls in June 2004 and she survives.

After graduating from Meadville High School in 1935 he began his sales career at Channellock, Inc.  After serving four years (1941-1945) in the US Army as a veteran of World War II in the European Theater, he returned to his job at Channellock and retired in 1979, after 42 years of service.  In 1982 he and his wife Ruth moved to Sebring, FL.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sebring and served as head usher for many years, the Sebring Municipal Golf Club, the VFW and American Legion.  Throughout his life, he enjoyed golf, photography, traveling, flower gardening and Penn State and Steeler football.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Sandra, include: a son, Dr. Douglas C. Miller and his wife Marilyn of St. Louis, MO; a daughter, Janis M. Luvaas and her husband Randy of Yakima, WA; a grandson, Riley Luvaas, currently studying at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA; a brother, Donald Miller and his wife Kay of Lakeland, FL; four nieces; three nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews and 3 great great nieces and nephew.  Surviving in-laws include Doris Recchia, Blaine and Wayne Eppehimer and their families and Sharyn Madison and her family.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Darwin Miller.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Prayer Service following at 7 p.m.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870; the Youth Choir Ministry at First United Methodist Church or Heartland Christian School both at 1160 Persimmon Avenue, Sebring, FL 33870
