Richard C. Proper

September 21, 1918 — August 23, 1988

Richard C. Proper, 69, of Guys Mills, died Tuesday, August 23, 1988, at his home suddenly after a period of declining health.

Mr. Proper was born in Randolph Township, September 21, 1918, a son of Burdette and Elsa Grafenhein Proper.  He married Virginia McFadden August 2, 1942.  She survives.

He retired in 1980 as a depatcher for Agway Petroleum Co. after 17 years of service.  He previously had worked 17 years for the George W. Sterling Pennzoil Distributorship in Titusville and prior to that worked for several years at the former Westinghouse Co. plant in Meadville.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Mrs. David (Carol) Miller of Guys Mills and Mrs. Scott (Cindy) McKissock of Cambridge Springs; three sons, Ronald G. Proper of Saegertown, Richard E. Proper of Bradford and Larry D. Proper of Guys Mills; his father and stepmother, Burdette and Viola Proper of Selma, CA; three sisters, Joan Brown and Joyce Madden, both of Selma and Mrs. Louis (Ellen) Carpenter of Guys Mills; three brothers, George Proper of Anaheim, CA, Robert Teifer of Oil City and Carl Proper of Chapmanville; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Duane Proper and Fred Proper and one sister, Helen Beuchat.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
