Richard Evelyn Mowris, Sr., 85, of Conneaut Lake, PA, passed away at home Sunday, December 30, 2007.
He was born in Tidioute, PA on February 20, 1922 a son of Otto J. and Ingaby J. Carlson Mowris. He married Alice Mae Clinger February 15, 1942 and she survives.
He worked for the Erie Lackawanna and Conrail Railroads for 36 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the 5th Street Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake. He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army serving in the Philippines in the 66th Combat Engineering Division and was honorably discharged January 7, 1946.
He was a robust man who enjoyed life and meeting people. Some of his passions were hunting and traveling with his wife.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Richard E. Mowris, Jr. of Sun Prairie, WI, John M. Mowris (Diane) of Greenville, Ralph O. Mowris and Lynn Thurber of Conneaut Lake, Burnell E. Mowris (Becky) of Meadville and Harold W. Mowris of Kansas City, KS; two daughters, Judy A. Montelongo (Art) of San Antonio, TX and Cindy L. Higgins (Dave) of Melborne, PA; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one sister, Joanne Nuttle of Tidioute.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and William Mowris, two sisters, Hannah Roudoph and Sybil Simmons; one grandson, James D. Mowris and one granddaughter, Susie Thompson.
Services were held at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.
