Richard F. Swavey, 88, of Meadville died Monday, February 01, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at the Meadville Medical Center.

He was born July 2, 1927 in Meadville a son of Frank and Audene Crawford Swavey.  He married Sally Fordham, June 6, 1947 and she preceded him in death June 30, 1996.

He was a 1945 graduate of Meadville High School and a graduate of the Erie Business School.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy.  He worked in sales for Lew Davies Pontiac, Jim Gault Pontiac and Palmiero Toyota auto dealerships.

He was a life member of Elks Lodge #219.  He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and in his younger years enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending winters in Florida.

He is survived by four children, Dana Swavey and his wife Alice of Cochranton, Christine Guthrie and her husband Harry of Cochranton, Debbie Bowler and her husband Dave of Guys Mills and Scott Swavey and his wife Lori of Meadville; a sister, Pennie Conrad and her husband Gary of Meadville; seven grandchildren, Jill Robinson and her husband Chris, Todd Swavey, Christine Andrews, James Guthrie and his wife Connie, Carrie Davis and her husband Jeff Frantz, Sarah Miller and her husband Aaron and Richard Swavey and his wife Dottie; a step-grandson, Brian Cummings, seventeen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Jeannerette; two brothers, Bernard and Russell Swavey and a great granddaughter, Samantha Swavey.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2-5 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Dave Brumagin, officiating.

Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
