Richard G. “Dick” Rose, 88 of Fredonia, passed away on December 25, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Stoneboro on April 17, 1935 to the late George and Mabel (Reichard) Rose. He was a graduate of Stoneboro High School and went on to work at Greenville Tube and Salem Stainless Steel as an Inspector retiring after 30 years. He then worked for Palmer Pools, retiring for a second time at age 67.
Dick attended the Oak Grove Church for 88 years and was very involved. He served as an Usher, Trustee, and participated in the building of the new church. He enjoyed the outdoors, going hunting, camping, bird watching, bicycle riding, gardening, and hiking with his family. Most of all he loved his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He married his beloved wife Donna (Mecklem) Rose on May 4, 1955. She survives at home. Also surviving are his children: Janet (David) Surrena of Fombel, PA; Sally Beggs of Sandy Lake; Gary (Shelly) Rose of Fredonia; and William (Carrie) Rose of Sandy Lake, grandchildren: Kathryn (John) Emerick; Alicia (Justin) Zygarowski; Dr. Gregory (Katee) Beggs; Tina (Evan) Hoobler; Tyler Rose; Summer (Alex) Springer; Jennifer (Jeff) Culver; Devan Smoker; Faith Smoker; Michaela Rose; Calvin Gault; and Izabella Gault, great-grandchildren: Carson; Cooper; Ryleigh; Cole; Quinn; Brooke; and Blake, and sisters: Jane Engstrom and Patricia Spargo, and sister-in-law: Helen Rose.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother Darrell Rose on February 26, 2023, brothers-in-law: James Engstrom and James Spargo, and son-in-law: Robert Beggs.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose And Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. Stoneboro & Sandy Lake
Visitation will take place at Oak Grove Church, 16 Oak Grove Road, Mercer, from 3 pm – 7 pm on Thursday, December 28.
Funeral services will be private.
Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Dick’s name to the Oak Grove Church Building Fund: 10 Oak Grove Road, Mercer.
