Richard G. Freyermuth

Richard G. (Dick) Freyermuth, 79, of Meadville, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born June 16, 1933 in Meadville, a son of H. Arden and Clarice Gillette Freyermuth.  He married Bettie DeGroodt June 28, 1958.

Dick was a 1951 graduate of Cochranton High School and was the class president.  He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army in France as an aid to the General.

Dick was a self-employed contractor with his father, Freyermuth Builders, and subsequently took over the family business.  Known for his quality building, he built many homes on the Franklin Pike as well as Fanning’s tool shop and the East Fairfield Township building.

A member and past Elder of St. Marks United Church of Christ, Dick was very involved in the Masonic Lodge.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge 234, Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie, Kismet Grotto and it’s Mystic Club where he was the director from 1973 to 1975, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie having served as Potentate in 1987, Royal Order of Jesters and was director from 2002-2003, imperial representative on the board of directors of the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Erie and was imperial representative emeritus, Crawford County Shrine Club and was a member and past president of the Crawford County Motor Patrol.

Dick also was a 50-year member of the Meadville Elks Lodge 219, member of the Meadville Eagles Aerie 423 and Conneaut Lake Park Fire Hall Station 5, member and past president of the Crawford County United Cerebral Palsy Board of Directors, served on the Crawford County School advisory council from 1977 to 1982, was a member of Huidekoper VFW Post #2006 and was a former East Fairfield Township Supervisor.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Bettie of 54 years, include a son, Scott Freyermuth of Meadville; a sister, Norma Knutson and her husband Donald of Little Rock, AR; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen, James, and Robert Freyermuth.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Cabari service.

The funeral service will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Russell Hines, Pastor of St. Marks United Church of Christ, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
