Richard H. Locke, 81, formerly of Price Rd., Saegertown and a current resident of the Crawford County Care Center, died there Monday, August 3, 2009.
He was born in Greenville March 23, 1928, a son of the late Harry J. and Carrie Stamm Locke. He married Anna E. Gibson June 30, 1951 and she preceded him in death August 16, 1998.
A 1946 graduate of Greenville High School, Richard worked for the Erie, Erie and Lackawanna, and Conrail Railroads. He subsequently worked in the maintenance department at Montgomery Wards for 5 years and was a house parent for the ARC of Crawford County.
In the early 1960s, he had a brain tumor removed at the Cleveland Clinic which at the time was one of the first successful surgeries of this kind performed at the Clinic.
Richard was a member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church and was an avid fisherman and story teller.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Cheryl Moore and her husband James of Meadville, Connie Locke of Saegertown, and Karen Zilhaver and her husband Lorin of Venango; 3 sons, Richard H. Locke, Jr. and his wife Susanne of Waterford, Paul E. Locke and his wife Janis of Cambridge Springs, and David G. Locke and his wife Diana of Cambridge Springs; 8 grandchildren, Patrick Moore and his wife Natasha of Oklahoma City, OK, Jeremiah Moore and his wife Karla of Meadville, Beth Ann Morfenski and her husband Daniel of Meadville, William J. Locke of Guys Mills, Bryan Locke and his wife Crystal of Cambridge Springs, Amanda LeSuer and her husband Shawn of Cambridge Springs, Carrie Zilhaver of Venango, and Park Zilhaver of Venango; a step-grandson, Jeffrey Richards of Conneaut, OH; 7 great-grandchildren, Xavier, AlmaLeah, and Merrick Morfenski, Kathryn Moore, Zachery and Andrew Locke, and Carley Locke; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ernest, Harley, and Frank Locke.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Christine Rogan, Pastor of Venango United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
