Richard L. Carr

Richard L. Carr, 73, of Conneaut Lake, died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Avow Hospice in Naples, FL.

He was born June 23, 1938 in McKeesport, PA a son of Vincent and Cora Little Karr.  He had been married to Ruth Manning Carr of Conneautville

He was the owner/operator of Carr’s Restaurant in Conneaut Lake from 1986 – 1994 and previously had worked for Harned Oil Co. in Conneaut Lake for 20 years starting as a truck driver and advancing to general manager.  In his retirement, he worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Klingensmith Construction Co.

He served in the US Navy from 1955-1959, was a member of Living Waters Church, the Iroquois Club, Western Crawford Masonic Lodge #258 of Conneautville, Zem Zem Shrine Temple Erie, Erie Consistory and Meadville Elks Lodge #219.  He was a supporter of the American Cancer Society was a former Chapter President and served on the board of the Pennsylvania division.  He was also a supporter of Women’s Services and chaired its first golf outing.  He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed hunting.

Survivors, include: three children, Van Erdman of Conneaut, OH, Melissa Vilk of Springboro and Brian Vilk of Portage, PA; a grandson, Zebulon Braden; two sisters, Shirley Taylor and her husband Ed of Cleveland, GA and Iris Beatty and her husband Norm of Lake City, PA; three nieces, Christina Thompson of Sylvania, GA, Tina Hill of Jupiter, FL and Jackie Carr of McKeesport, PA; two nephews, Sean Taylor of Rockville, MD and Norm Beatty of East Springfield, PA and his friend Elena Gotto of Meadville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Carr and James Carr.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake with a Masonic Service at 6:45 p.m.

The funeral and committal service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Ray Martinez, Pastor of Living Waters Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Spring Cemetery, Springboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505 or the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th Street, Suite 216, Erie, PA 16501.
