Richard M. “Dick” Bortz, 83 of the Lakes at Jefferson, formerly of Lake Latonka, Mercer, passed away on August 19, 2022 at Sharon Regional Hospital. Dick was born on January 4, 1939 to the late Myron and Helen (Hazi) Bortz. He was a graduate of Lakeview High School and went on to proudly serve his Country in the United States Navy. He started his career at Bortz & Bortz Coal Co., and went on to work for many years as a welder at CPT in Franklin, and then as a truck driver for McLean’s and CCX.
Dick was a longtime member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Mercer. He enjoyed golfing and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He enjoyed hosting and attending cookouts and picnics with family and for family reunions. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Dick married his beloved wife, Mary Lou (Graham) Bortz on August 15, 1959, she preceded him in death on September 24, 2017.
Dick is survived by his daughter; DeAnn (David) McCullough of Sharpsville; sons; Richard “Dick” (Wendy) Bortz of Clarks Mills and Douglas (Janet) Bortz of South Lyon, MI; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother; James (Linda) Bortz; sister; Barb Heckman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose And Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. Stoneboro & Sandy Lake.
A private service will be held at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer.
