Richard P. Smith, 79, of 20999 Star Route, Meadville, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Meadville January 12, 1930, a son of the late Walter and Louise Jacklett Smith. He married Patricia Coulter September 11, 1954.
Richard was a 1948 graduate of Randolph High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1951 to 1953. He was employed by Asplundh Tree Experts for 41 years, retiring in 1989 as a general foreman. He was a life member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219 and was a member of the Charles Stafford American Legion Post 111, Meadville. He enjoyed restoring Corvettes, hunting, and golfing.
Richard was a member of St. Brigid Church, Meadville.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Patricia of 54 years, include a daughter, Brenda Smith of Chatham Township, OH; a son, Tim Smith of Meadville; a daughter-in-law, Melissa Smith of O’Fallon, IL; 2 sisters-in-law, Isabel Smith of Saegertown and Connie Etheridge and her husband John of Meadville; 2 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Smith and his twin brother, James Smith.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer Service at 3:45 p.m. and an Elks service at 6:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville with Fr. Rocco Tito as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Hippolyte Cemetery, Frenchtown.
