Richard A. (Dick) Sutliff, 95, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 20, 1927 in Crawford County, a son of Carl N. and Ida E. Sidler Sutliff, Sr. He married Louise M. Burge June 12, 1949 and she preceded him in death November 5, 2009.
Dick attended Meadville High School. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II as a part of the European Theater of Operations in Germany.
Dick retired from Avtex in 1985 following 42 years of service. During this period he was on leave from the plant to serve as financial secretary and treasurer-business agent for Local #8 ACTWU. For a number of years he served as business agent for House of Edinboro and Edinboro College Food Service. He also served as an organizer and international representative for ACTWU locally and in the south.
Dick attended New Beginnings Church of God. He was an active member of Saegertown American Legion Post 205. He also was a member of Vernon Grange 936, Pomona Grange 26, State Grange 6th degree, and National Grange 7th degree.
Survivors include three daughters, Trudith A. (Trudy) Cooper (James) of Meadville, Melody S. Lazeski of Saegertown, and Heather M. Stratton (George) of Cambridge Springs; five granddaughters, Tiffany Lazeski, Louise Lilley, Brandy Lydic (L.J.), Kelly Morton (Chad), and Krissy Stern; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Sutliff; a son-in-law, Wilford Lazeski; and a brother, Carl N. Sutliff, Jr.
Calling hours will be Friday, June 17th from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, June 18th from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE. There will be an American Legion service Friday at 7:45 p.m.
The funeral service will be Saturday, June 18th at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Temple Jarrell officiating.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of the Vietnam War Post 52.
