Richard (Rich) Eric Getty

February 6, 1945 — January 18, 2018

Richard (Rich) Eric Getty, 72, formerly of Saegertown went to cut firewood and farm in heaven Thursday, January 18, 2018 following a brief illness and a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born February 6, 1945 in Meadville, the middle child of the late James H. and Leora H. (Maloney) Getty of Saegertown.

Rich graduated from Saegertown High School in 1963.  Afterward, he attended Alliance Technical College where he graduated at the top of his class.  He then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for a brief time.  Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he worked at Talon, Inc.  He then founded Design Associates, Inc. located in the old Hunter's Red & White building in Saegertown.  When CAD programming came into being, Rich decided he didn't want to sit behind a computer desk for the rest of his life, and followed his late father's footsteps into the construction business, doing renovation and remodeling work while continuing to utilize skills he gained as a design draftsman.

He met his future wife, Ijenna (Hunter), at the 2001 club in 1978 and after a long courtship, they married on December 14, 1984.  Together, they welcomed a "Kidd-o," daughter Morgan Erica, in March 1989.

Rich was a former Woodcock Township Planning Commission board member and was instrumental in establishing the Boro Farmers’ Market in Edinboro, which saw over 12 years of success.  He enjoyed horses and woodworking and had served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Rich will be remembered for his rosy cheeks and sparkling eyes; his love of farming, maple trees, and the first robin-sighting of spring; pulling his thumb off; and asking if you had an alligator in your ear.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife and daughter, include a sister, Alice Dalmaso of Saegertown; a sister-in-law, Barbara Getty of Scottsdale, AZ; nieces and nephews; close cousins; and the extended Hunter family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, James O. Getty.

Calling hours will be Sunday, January 21st from 2-6 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

The funeral service will be Monday, January 22nd at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, The Longest Day, P.O. Box 6804, Hagerstown, MD 21741-6804 (Rich Getty’s Revolutionaries on memo line) or at www.act.alz.org/goto/MyDaddo or maple trees be planted.
