Rita Mae George, 96, of Conneaut Lake, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 16, 1917 in Sharon, a daughter of John and Emma Fromm Cook. She married James Melville George November 19, 1941 and he preceded her in death March 24, 1993.
Rita worked as a bookkeeper at Specialty Supply Company, Conneaut Lake for 21 years, the company that her husband co-founded in 1947. She was a member of the 55+ Club, including chairwoman for 26 years, member of the Conneaut Lake Park Volunteer Fire Department Station 5, Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department Station 3, and the Vernon Grange. She enjoyed gardening, canning and babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rita was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, Conneaut Lake where she had been the oldest living founding member and was a member of its Altar Rosary Society.
Survivors include a son, John George and his wife Darlene of Linesville; two daughters, Joyce Trzesniowski and her friend Bill Hilton of Conneaut Lake and Janet Briggs and her husband Larry of Conneaut Lake; four grandchildren, David George, Michelle George, Justin Pease, and Jeffery George; six great-grandchildren, Steven, Brandon, Rachel, Crystal, Skylar, and Harry; two great-great-grandchildren, Brady and Preston; a sister, Cecelia Alter of Sharpsville; a sister-in-law, Betty Cook of Arizona; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephaney; two brothers, George and James Cook; and two sisters, Barbara Gibbs and Veronica Koch.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake with a Scripture Prayer service at 5:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, 155 S. Ninth St., Conneaut Lake with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas, as Celebrant.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
