Robert C. Hyatt

Robert L. Hyatt, 77, of 596 Chestnut St., Meadville, died Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH following a brief illness.

He was born in Cleveland, OH January 15, 1930, a son of the late Edward and Marie McMahon Hyatt.  He married Janice Johnson April 25, 1959.

He was a 1958 graduate of The Ohio State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering.    He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1953.  He worked as a manufacturing manager at Meadville Forging Company for 24 years, retiring in 2002.  He previously worked as a manufacturing manager at Ashtabula Forge, Ashtabula, OH from 1959 to 1978.  He was actively engaged as the “Godfather” in support of the Creating Landscapes Program at Allegheny College where he served as photographer and videographer.  An avid downhill snow skier and woodworker, and he was an active participant in Meadville’s Women in Black and Veterans for Peace weekly vigils.  He was an outstanding partner, father, and grandfather.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Jan of 48 years, include 3 children, John Robert Hyatt and his wife Jill of Meadville; David Edward Hyatt and his fiancé Melinda of Colorado Springs, CO; and Susannah Lee Hyatt and her husband Barry Mita of Cleveland Heights, OH; 4 granddaughters, Cassidy, Gabrielle, Sophia, and Lizi; 3 brothers, James Hyatt and his wife Phyllis of Sebastian, FL; David Hyatt and his wife Martha of Montville, OH; and Tom Hyatt and his wife Virginia of Cincinnati, OH; and 9 nieces and nephews.

The family will be pleased to receive friends on Saturday, September 1, 2007 from 4 to 6 p.m. at both the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and the Hyatt residence, 596 Chestnut St., Meadville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meadville’s Women in Black (a peace activist group), 375 Jackson Park Dr., Creating Landscapes Scholarship Fund (a summer arts and sciences exploration for children and teens at Allegheny College), Box 25, Allegheny College, or the American Cancer Society, 464 Pine St., all of Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
