Robert Christie, 92, of Grandview Avenue, Meadville died Monday, October 1, 2007 at home.
He was born September 13, 1915 in Van Wert, OH a son of the Rev. John Watson and Ruth Tracy Bigelow Christie. He married Elizabeth Marine October 11, 1938 and she preceded him in death on July 2, 2007.
Robert was a mechanical engineer, having attended Lehigh University and the University of Delaware. During the war (1940-1945), he was employed by the Hercules Powder Company in Brunswick, GA. From 1946-1985 he worked for the American Viscose Corporation/FMC. After his retirement, he was a private consultant in the heating and cooling business.
Bob was a member of the Meadville City Council for ten years, ending in 1968. He was on the Board of Directors of the Crawford County Historical Society as well as a member of the Mayflower Society, Rotary Club of Meadville, Round Table and the Meadville Country Club. Bob was a 61 year member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving in many capacities.
Robert was an avid collector of music of many genres. He also enjoyed boating, researching the latest electronic equipment and vacationing with his family and friends at Christie’s Point in Canada.
Survivors, include: his son, Huntington B. Christie of Centerville; two daughters, Charlotte Thomas and her husband Christopher of Meadville and Rachel Christie and her husband Stephen Bangs of Loveland, OH; a daughter-in-law, Carol A. Christie of Erie; two brothers, John W. Christie, Jr. of Wilmington, DE and Dana B. Christie of Ft. Wayne, IN and seven grandchildren, David Thomas, Jeffrey Thomas, Elizabeth Bangs, Stephen Bangs, Eric Christie, Matthew Christie and John Robert Christie.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert M. Christie; a brother, Andrew D. Christie and two sisters, Catharine Dann and Pauline Knapp.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty Street, Meadville with the Rev. Dr. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Crawford County Historical Society, 411 Chestnut St. or the First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., both of Meadville, PA 16335.
