Robert E. Bunce, 92, formerly of Titusville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since 2001, died there Sunday, September 5, 2010.
He was born in Titusville, August 30, 1918 a son of Leonard and Cora Coon Bunce. He married Elizabeth Newman May 17, 1944 at Titusville First Baptist Church and she preceded him in death August 31, 1991. He subsequently married Mildred Fulmer Palm Hurlburt in Youngwood, PA August 1, 1992 and she preceded him in death January 27, 2008.
He retired from Universal Cyclops in Titusville in 1976 after 21 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Titusville First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was a former Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon.
He was a 1936 graduate of Titusville High School, a veteran of World War II with the US Army Air Corps and a veteran of the Korean War with the US Air Force. He was a member of Titusville Lions Club, the Cleo J. Ross American Legion Post #368, the Bruce Shorts VFW Post #5958 and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed writing poetry for his family, playing golf and traveling.
Survivors, include: three daughters, Jolene B. Tubbs and her husband Rev. James of Conneaut Lake, Colleen J. Atkins and her husband Dennis of Prattville, AL and Darlene Howe and her husband Rev. Kenneth of Sturdevant, WI; a son, Richard Palm and his wife Pam of Oil City; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Bunce and Alfred Bunce and four sisters, Florence Smith, Orpha Raszmann, Persis Jones and Thelma Eskesen.
Calling hour will be Thursday from 10-11 a.m. in Barco Chapel, Grace Nursing Center of Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jim Tubbs and Rev. Ken Howe, officiating.
Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Thompson, OH.
The family suggests memorials be made to Titusville First Baptist Church, 216 N. Perry Street, Titusville, PA 16354, Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335 or Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
