Robert Emery Flick

October 11, 1922 — June 11, 2008

Robert Emery Flick, 85, formerly of Sheakleyville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since 2001 died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 surrounded by his family at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born October 11, 1922 in Sandy Creek Twp., Mercer Co. a son of Emery and Julia Wagner Flick.  He married Marian Isabelle Stallsmith October 6, 1945 and she preceded him in death January 6, 2008.

He was a hard worker all his life, largely self-taught, successfully facing new career challenges and directions.  Leaving school in 1936 after the 8th grade, he successfully operated the family dairy farm outside of Sheakleyville.  During this period he was active with the Country Belle Dairy Co-Operative as a board member, President and later becoming General Manager of Operations.  In 1973 he sold the farm and worked for two years with Reimold Brothers Auctioneers.  In 1975 he purchased the ARCO service station at the corner of Park Avenue and Poplar Street in Meadville and operated it for three years.  In 1978 he opened Flick’s TV in Meadville which continues successfully today as Flick’s TV and Appliance.

He was an active member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association, a volunteer fireman with the Sheakleyville Volunteer Fire Dept. and a member of the Sheakleyville United Methodist Church and a former church Trustee.  He was a loving husband and father with a great sense of humor.   He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, square and round dancing.

Survivors, include: four children, Vicki Flick of Hoboken, NJ, Valerie Bloom and her husband Steve of Emporia, VA, Alan Flick and his wife Lou Ann of Meadville and Kathy Flick of Key West, FL; six grandchildren, Stephanie, Whitney and Victoria Bloom and Amanda, Michael and Alexander Flick and two sisters, Mildred Hart of Maryville, TN and Doris Young of Hadley, PA.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Davis, Pastor of the Greater Oil City United Methodist Ministry, officiating.

Burial will be in Sheakelyville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Wesbury Foundation, Nursing Scholarship Fund, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335.
