Robert F. Baker, 93, of Meadville, died Monday, August 1, 2011 at his daughter, Bonnie's, house in Oneida, NY, where he and Ruth have been residing for the past three years.
He was born in Durhamville, NY May 23, 1918 a son of John S. and Harriet F. Gurney Baker. He married Ruth E. Baker April 14, 1940 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Oneida High School and worked in engineering and sales for International Heating and A/C for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He previously worked for various companies including; Union Fork & Hoe and Oneida Ltd., as well as being self employeed.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping and traveling to Florida.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Ruth of 71 years, include: six children, Robert Baker and his wife Sandra of Canandaigua, NY, Bonnie Roberts and her husband Harold of Oneida, NY, William Baker and his wife Glenna of Marietta, GA, Betty Gooden and her husband Robert of Meadville, Brenda Holcomb and her husband John of Lincolnton, NC and John Baker and his wife Mary of Manassas, VA; 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Nina Byers, Genevieve Wuilliez and Myra Mayer and three brothers, John S. Baker, George Carleton Baker and James L. Baker.
Calling hours will be Friday from 3-5 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
Because of the Thunder in the City event at Diamond Park, the funeral service will not be held at the First Baptist Church, but will be graciously hosted at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville, Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gerald Walton, Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 353 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
