Robert G. Carlson, 68, of Meadville, died Saturday, October 18, 1986, at Meadville Medical Center following a lingering illness.
He was born in Chicago, July 15, 1918, a son of William A. and Margaret Swanberg Carlson. He married Grace I. Frank June 22, 1948.
Mr. Carlson graduated from Meadville High School in 1937 and received a degree in business from Purdue University in 1941. He served in Army Ordnance during World War II for 44 months, 2.5 years of that service in Europe. He was discharged with rank of second lieutenant in May 1946.
He had been with American Brake Shoe, Co., National Bearing Division, since 1941, first employed as an apprentice at the National Bearing Metals plant on Terrace Street. He later returned to the company's St. Louis, MO, plant, completing his apprenticeship there.
He returned to Meadville in 1947 as plant metallurgist and was promoted to assistant superintendent in 1951. He was appointed to the post of superintendent of the Meadville plant in June 1955. In 1960, he was transfered to Cleveland for four years where he worked in the company's sales department. He was later appointed plant works manager at the company which is now known as Abex Bronze and Alloys.
Mr. Carlson was a member of the Spencer Hospital Board of Trustees, Board of Incorporators of Meadville Medical Center and a director of Meadville Community Hotel, Inc.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Dr. William H. Carlson of Athens, OH, Richard J. Carlson of Kansas City, MO, Robert E. Carlson of St. Louis, MO and John T. Carlson of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. George (Joy) Alexander of Cleveland; and five grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
