Robert G. Grimes, Sr., 92, formerly of Meadow Street, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community for the past 3 years, died there, Monday, December 21, 2009.
He was born in Susquehanna, PA September 15, 1917 a son of the late John E. and Elizabeth A. Lynch Grimes. He married Georga Mallery August 17, 1940 and she preceded him in death November 11, 2006.
He retired in 1977 as foreman in the Meadville Program Car Shop of Conrail after 37 years of service. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a former Church Elder, Sunday School teacher and Junior High Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Crawford Amateur Radio Society and the Erie-Lackawanna-Conrail Veterans Association.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. Grimes, Jr. and his companion Erlene Pyle of Fremont, IN; two daughters, Margy Miller and her husband Ted of Batavia, NY and Mary Rupert and her husband David of Columbus, OH; a brother, Donald E. Grimes of Talent, OR; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alice Zeller.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery and a family celebration of life service will be held at a future date.
