Robert H. Kellogg

November 25, 1919 — December 5, 1999

Robert H. Kellogg, 80, of Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, since September 1996, died Sunday, December 5, 1999 at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.

He was born November 25, 1919 in Titusville, a son of the late Harold S. and Jessie S. Buckley Kellogg.  He married Ruth O. Royal September 30, 1942 and she survives.

He was a 1937 graduate of Meadville High School.  He served his apprenticeship and worked at the Meadville Tribune as a printer and typesetter for 40 years, retiring in 1981.  He previously worked for 3 years at the American Viscose.

He was a three year veteran of World War II, having served with the US Army Air Corps. from 1942 to 1945.  He was stationed on Tinian in the Mariana Islands in the South Pacific with the 40th Bomber Squadron, 6th Bomber Group.  The B-29 he worked on was next to the B-29 that dropped the first atomic bomb.

He was a long time member of Stone Methodist Church, its Marriot Sunday School class, United Methodist Men, and former youth fellowship leader.  He was a former scout master of Boy Scout Troop 227 and Red Coat volunteer at Meadville Medical Center.

He was the loved and beloved husband, father of three children and eight grandchildren who especially enjoyed spending time with his family, camping and traveling.  He was a skilled woodworker and carpenter, having built his own home, assisting his two sons with the construction of their homes, and making items for his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by two sons, Dr. R. Thomas Kellogg (Lynne)  and Dr. Ronald Kellogg (Mary), both of Meadville; one daughter, Mrs. Scott (Deborah) Seaholm of Mentor, OH; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Hanes of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Mrs. Donald (Jenny) Murray, Mrs. Thomas (Amy) Nuzback, Mrs. Matthew (Mandy) Greydanus, Kris Seaholm, Kim Seaholm, Sarah Kellogg, Laura Kellogg and Kevin Kellogg.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
