Robert I. Walters, Sr., 53, of 1600 Walters Mill Road, Somerset, PA died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest, Monday, April 15, 2002 in Somerset.
He was born in Waynesburg, PA, September 21, 1947 a son of Harry Irvin Lowry and Thelma Betty Walters.
He worked for 15 years as a miner at the Nemacolin Coal Mines. He was of the Baptist faith, a former member of the Jaycees and he enjoyed working with wood and running.
Survivors, include three daughters, Billie Jo Schmechel and her husband Mark of Meadville; Roberta Miller and her husband William of Uniontown and Doris Walters of Meadville; two sons, Robert Walters, Jr. and his wife Jody of Meadville and William Walters of Somerset; his father, Harry Lowry of Smithfield, PA; three sisters, Betty Sheppard of Glendale, AZ, Elly Knight of Geismar, LA and Rose Willis of Wickenburg, AZ; two brothers, Harry Paul Bryner of Mount Vernon, GA and William Bryner of New Salem, PA; 17 grandchildren, Erica Schmechel, Michaela Schmechel, Mark Schmechel Jr., Madison Schmechel, Zakia Carter, Joseph Miller, Samantha Miller, James Walters, Sarah Walters, Ashley Carter, William Walters Jr., Matthew Walters, Simone Carter, Becky Yarnell, Nichole Parrish, April Miller and Victoria Miller and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Betty Walters.
A private service will be held for the family Saturday at Greendale Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Murphy, officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
