Robert Lee Schwab

Robert Lee “Colonel” Schwab, 62, of 970 S. Morgan St., Meadville, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at his residence following a 9-month illness.

He was born in Meadville March 9, 1946, a son of the late Edward and Katherine Eddy Schwab.  He married Joyce Harned July 27, 1967.

Robert was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War, serving from 1964 to 1966.  He was employed at DeVore Construction, Inc. for 31 years, retiring as a superintendent.  He previously worked at Meadville Malleable.  He was a member of Carpenters Union 268, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville, American Legion Post 111, Meadville, and West Mead #2 Volunteer Fire Department.  He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, NASCAR, boating, and fishing trips to Canada with his son and friends.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Joyce of 40 years, include 2 daughters, Susan Boylan and her husband Rick of Cambridge Springs and Karen Newman and her husband Ron of Meadville; a son, Robert A. Schwab and his wife Anne of Meadville; 6 grandchildren, Bradley, Bridgette, Nicole, Kaitlyn, Alan, and Cody; a brother, E. John Schwab and his wife Deb of Meadville; a sister, Diane O’Brien and her husband David of Chautauqua, NY; several nieces and nephews; and good friends, David and Carol Mona of Meadville and Ed and Corrine Hecker of Saegertown.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Cooper.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Walton, Pastor of First Baptist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
