Robert M. Christie, 51, of Erie, died Monday, June 9, 1997 at Presbyterian Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center while awaiting a heart transplant.
He was born January 30, 1946 in Wilmington, DE, a son of Robert and Elizabeth (Marine) Christie. He married Carol A. Ward July 24, 1976. She survives.
Mr. Christie was a 1963 graduate of Meadville High School. He graduated with honors from Lafayette College, Easton, PA in 1973 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He had completed additional coursework towards his Masters in Business Administration at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH. He was a registered professional engineer in PA and had worked for three years from 1972 to 1975 for Lord Corp., Erie in the Kinematic Division as a chemical process engineer. He subsequently worked for 22 years for Mallinckrodt, Inc., Erie in the Calsicat Division and was promoted numerous time most recently holding the position of business director. He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served from 1966 to 1969. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Oil Chemist Society, North American Catalysis Society, National Petroleum Refiners Assoc., and the Erie Club. He enjoyed summers in Canada, gardening water sports and computers.
Survivors in addition to his wife include, his parents of Meadville; three sons, Eric L Christie of Houston, TX, John R. and Matthew S. Christie, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Christopher (Charlotte) Thomas of Meadville and Mrs. Steven (Rachel) Christie-Bangs of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, Huntington Christie of Centerville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie.
