Robert M. Coutler, 85, a resident of the United Methodist Home since August 1980, formerly of Warren, Sheffield and Pittsburgh, died at City Hospital, Friday, April 1, 1983, after a long illness.
Mr. Coutler was born at West Lebanon, Indiana County, June 3, 1897, a son of William and Ella Moore Coutler. He married Geneva Snyder July 12, 1923.
Mr. Coutler retired as store manager with A & P food stores after 30 years of service in the Pittsburgh area. Following early retirement, he assisted his wife at Ruth M. Smith Children's Home, Sheffield, where she served as superintendent for 11 years. Mr. Coutler was a member of Barnes United Methodist Church, Barnes, and a former member of Sheffield Rotary Club. He was an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife, a resident of the United Methodist Home; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Lowman of Homer City; and a brother, Arthur B. Coutler of Saltsburg. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Warren County Memorial Park.
