Robert M. Finkbeiner, 68, of 11380 Schenenberg Rd., Guys Mills, died unexpectedly at home Thursday, June 21, 2007.
He was born February 13, 1939 in Brookville, a son of John F. and Edith Russell Finkbeiner. He married Cindy McCain February 2, 1980.
He was a 1957 graduate of Randolph High School and was class vice president and attended Edinboro University. A U.S. Army Veteran of the 82nd military Intelligence Detachment, Headquarters Company, he served from 1960 to 1963. He worked at Penelec and retired in 1997 as a line supervisor.
He was a member of St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, Meadville Master Gardeners, and the Meadville Hunting and Fishing Club. He was well known for his home grown garlic, was a former well regarded baseball and softball player and was a former baseball coach from t-ball to little league to high school as an assistant baseball coach at Maplewood High School. His passion was gardening and he loved hunting and shooting, and had a deep appreciation for classical music and poetry.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Cindy of 27 years, include a son, Robert G. Finkbeiner of Guys Mills; a daughter, Sarah L. Finkbeiner of Moab, UT; his mother, Edith Finkbeiner of Centerville; a sister, Marilyn Ervin and her husband James of Laguna Hills, CA; a brother, Rev. John Finkbeiner and his wife Leslie of Mercer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
Calling hours are today (Sunday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, Frenchtown will Fr. Dennis Veltri as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Hippolyte Cemetery, Frenchtown with military honors provided by Meadville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
