Robert M. Gainey

October 28, 1919 — November 3, 1983

Robert M. Gainey, 64, of Meadville, died Thursday, November 3, 1983, at home after an illness of several months.

He was born at Grand Rapids, MI, October 28, 1919, a son of Dr. James J. and Mary Louise Egan Gainey.

He was employed as a franchise salesman for Century 21 Real Estate Co.  Previously, he was employed for 10 years as an account executive in the advertising department of Cahners Publishing Co., New York, and for 14 years as an assistant advertising manager at Alcoa Aluminum Co., Pittsburgh.

He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal.

He graduated in 1946 from the University of Missouri, having earned degrees in journalism and English.

He was a veteran of World War II and was discharged as a captian in US Marine Corp., serving in the Pacific theater and in China.

Survivors include four daughters, Megan Gainey of Lauren Gainey both of New York City, Dr. Shannon Matta of New Brunswick, NJ and Cadence Gainey of New Wales; three sons, Martin Gainey and Grant Gainey, both of Meadville and Kent Gainey of Berkeley, CA; two brothers, William Gainey and John Gainey, both of Wyoming, MI; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Laurence, a brother and a granddaughter.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
