Robert P. Boynton

April 16, 1899 — July 23, 1970

Robert P. Boynton, 71, of Daytona Beach, FL, who was first operator of Port Meadville Airport, opened the first drive-in gasoline station in Meadville (and the first between Pittsburgh and Erie), and built Boynton Apartments on Chestnut Street, died at North Florida Hospital July 23, 1970, of a heart attack.

He was born in Meadville April 16, 1899, a son of Albert L. and Jessie E. Boynton, both of Meadville.  He married Katheryne M. Carr July 29, 1920.  They moved to Daytona Beach in 1937.  She preceded him in death.

During World War II, Mr. Boynton served in the CAP at Daytona Beach and was recognized by the government after the war for his services in sighting enemy submarines off the Florida coast.

He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Meadville, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a longtime member of Meadville Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Harry T. (Dorothy) Charles of Daytona Beach and three cousins.

Services were held in Florida.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.
