Robert Reed Laderer

September 28, 1919 — January 12, 2004

Robert Reed Laderer, 84, of 1005 Leslie Road, Meadville and also of Norton, OH died Monday, January 12, 2004 at Akron Hospice, Akron, OH.

He was born September 28, 1919 in Grove City, PA a son of Harry Reed and Margaret Helen Humphrey Laderer.  He married Phyllis Boyd January 13, 1940 and she preceded him in death July 20, 1989.  He subsequently married Bertie Vandevender January 26, 1991 and she survives.

He was owner and operator of Humphrey Dry Cleaners for 50 years retiring in 1994 and previously worked for several years at Talon Inc.

He was a 1937 graduate of Meadville High School and he attended Grove City College and Allegheny College.  He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army Air Corps.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a Past President of its Board of Trustees.  He was a former board member of Fairview/Fairmont Housing Corp., member, director, and former Secretary of the Meadville Field Archers Club, former member of the Kiwanis Club of Meadville and current member of the Kiwanis Club of Norton, OH.  He was also a camp counselor through Grace Church, Norton, OH.  He also enjoyed archery, golf and photography.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Bertie of 12 years, include two sons, Van R. Laderer and his wife Lou Ann Taft of Englewood, FL and Jay R. Laderer of Meadville; one daughter, Lyn A. Hostetler of Wakefield, RI; two stepdaughters, Pam Allshouse of Barberton, OH and Pat Carver and her husband Paul Hopkins of Norton, OH; two sisters, Doris Young and her husband Jack of Roseburg, OH and Margaret “Peg” Stanton of Naples, FL; one brother, Edward Laderer and his wife Martha of Conneaut Lake; nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Brian Jensen, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
