Robert T. Sherman, 77, of Meadville, died at home Saturday, June 7, 1997, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Meadville, March 2, 1920, a son of the late Rollin A. and Marion M. (Thomas) Sherman. He married Caroline Freyer, July 13, 1946. She survives.
He graduated from the Meadville Public Schools and was a 1941 graduate of Allegheny College. He worked briefly for Alcoa Company of Pittsburgh then served in the US Army during World War II. Following the War, he was employed at Allegheny College in various capacities for 38 years, retiring in 1984 as assistant to the President.
He was an active member of Stone Methodist Church and former Chairman of the Board; member and past president of the YMCA Board of Directors; was active in the United Way of Western Crawford County; member of the Meadville Medical Center Board of Corporators; member of Meadville Rotary Club; the Literary Union and the Roundtables.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one son, Jon T. Sherman of Titusville; one grandson, Jon Christopher Sherman of Meadville; two great-grandsons; and two sisters, Gloria Saylor of Erie and Ann Pickens of Windsor, CT.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
