Robert V. Byers

Robert V. Byers of 722 Albright Dr., Meadville and formerly of Pittsburgh, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

He was born in Pitcarin, PA March 20, 1913, a son of the late Rev. Edward W. and Margaret May Wilson Byers.  He married Lucille Lewis September 21, 1940 and she preceded him in death February 22, 2005.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corp. Veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946.  He was a 1948 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.  He retired from Mellon Bank in 1976 as Division Officer in the credit policy department, following 28 years of service.  He was a former instructor at the American Institute of Banking.

He was a former member of Morningside Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews including the Rev. William L. Brown and his wife Carolyn of Elyria, OH, Lois Jean Brown of Warren, OH, and A. Delbert Byers, Jr. and his wife Dolores of Vanport, PA.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, A. Delbert Byers, Edwin Byers, and J. Wilson Byers; and a sister, Margaret Stakowiz.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at McCracken Chapel, Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, 31 N. Park Ave.,  Meadville.

A funeral service will be Thursday at 1:15 p.m. at Allegheny Cemetery, Temple of Memories, Pittsburgh followed by entombment with the Rev. William L. Brown, nephew, officiating.
