Robert W. Howell

Robert W. Howell, 85, of Meadville passed away surrounded by his family at the Meadville Medical Center, Wednesday, October 31, 2012.

He was born June 10, 1927 in Franklin Twp., Westmoreland Co., a son of Hezekiah and Elsie Brewer Howell.  He married Carol L. Fowler June 23, 1951 and she survives.

He retired in 1993 as Plant Engineer at Dad’s Pet Care after 40 years of service.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army.  He was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #234, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie and Scottish Rite Bodies, Coudersport.  He was also a life member of Meadville Eagles Aerie #429.  He enjoyed antique motorcycles and cars, currently owning a 1962 Thunderbird.  He also enjoyed hunting and boating.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Carol of 61 years, include: a daughter, Barb Hartle and her husband Keith of Meadville; a son, Donald Howell and his wife Noreen of Alpharetta, GA; two grandchildren, Justin Howell and his wife Jenn and Angela Slingluff; two great granddaughters, Megan and Allison; a sister, Esther Hodson of Conneautville; a brother, Richard Stephens and his wife Evelyn of Meadville and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Grover Howell, John Howell and Art Stephens and four sisters, Ruth Howell, Mable Klingensmith, Frances Howell and Nora Howell.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Alice McClymonds, Pastor of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
