Robert W. Noel

Robert W. Noel, 79, of Meadville, died suddenly Saturday, December 12, 1998 in a plane accident near the Greenville airport.

He was born June 2, 1919 in Bruin, PA, a son of Lloyd and Bessie Warren Noel.  He married Mildred R. McCollim April 12, 1941 and she preceded him in death September 11, 1996.

He was the owner and operator of the Ashland Oil Products Co. here in Meadville and at one time was the owner and operator of the Atlantic Service Station at Park Ave. and Poplar Street.  He also at one time worked for Talon, Inc.

He was a 1938 graduate of St. Petersburg High School and he attended Grove City College.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, member and past master of Masonic Lodge #408, member and past High Priest of Solomon Royal Arch Chapter #191, member and past thrice Illustrious Master of Timohty Alden Council #60, member and past Commander NW Commandry #25, Knights Templar, member and past president Crawford Co. Shrine Club, member and past president of Crawford Co. Motor Patrol and member of Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, and Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie.  He was honored with the Knights York Cross of Honor and he was the recipient of the Order of the Silver Trowel.

He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army, a life member of the VFW, amatuer pilot and modal airplane enthusiast and an avid golfer.

Survivors include a son, Robert L. Noel of Meadville; a daughter, Linda Boyles of Saegertown; a brother, C. Richard Noel of Grove City; three grandchildren, David L. Noel, Lisa A. Shuffstall and Lori A. Thomas and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Naysmith.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
