Robert W. 'Red' Minnis

Robert W. “Red” Minnis, 81, of Linesville and formerly of Meadville, died Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born July 19, 1923 in Meadville, a son of the late Clement Jack and Laura Stainbrook Minnis.  He married Norma Schreck July 19, 1947 and she survives.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served from 1943 to 1946 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations. He worked at Spaulding’s for 20 years and Canteen Vending Company, Erie for 20 years.  He subsequently retired in 1985 from Hoff Vending Company, Meadville as a sales representative.  He enjoyed camping, golfing, traveling, and hunting.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 57 years, include 3 sons, Richard W. Minnis and his wife, Joyce of Conneaut Lake; James K. Minnis and his wife Carolynne of Paso Robles, CA; and Stephen D. Minnis and his wife Roseann of Meadville; 3 daughters, Anita Becker and her husband Rick of Little Valley; NY; Bonnie Edwards and her husband James of Mill Hall; and Cynthia Splitstone and her husband Don of Linesville; 1 sister, Erma Gilmore of Buena Vista, CO; 3 brothers, Don Minnis and his wife Rita of Westford; Boyd Minnis and his wife Dorothy of Maine; and David Minnis and his wife Betty of Meadville; 13 grandchildren, Richard, Jr., Aubrey, Kenneth, June, Michelle, Stephany, Danielle, Richard, Jr. (RJ), Adam, Eric, Aaron, Jessica, and Robert; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas L. Minnis; a grandson, Michael Minnis; and 3 brothers, Glenn, DeWayne, and William Minnis.

Calling hours are today (Monday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Cathy Newport, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
